✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a military expedition he undertook, and the people were afflicted by severe hunger. The people asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to slaughter some of their riding camels, and the Messenger of Allah was about to grant them permission in that matter. Then Umar b. al-Khattab said: Consider, O Messenger of Allah—if we slaughter our riding camels, then meet our enemy tomorrow while we are hungry and on foot? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What do you think, O Umar? He said: Summon the people with the remnants of their provisions, then supplicate for us for blessing in it, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will surely suffice us through your supplication, if Allah wills. He said: It was as though a covering had been over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was removed. He called for a cloth and ordered that it be spread out. Then he summoned the people with the remnants of their provisions, and they came with what they had. Among the people were those who brought a handful of food or a bowl, and among them were those who brought something like an egg. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that it be placed on that cloth. Then he supplicated for blessing in it and spoke as much as Allah willed him to speak. Then he called out in the army and they came. Then he ordered them and they ate and were satisfied, and they filled their vessels and their provision bags. Then he called for a small water skin and it was placed before him. Then he called for water and poured it into it. Then he ejected some saliva into it and spoke as much as Allah willed him to speak. Then he inserted his little finger into it, and I swear by Allah, I saw the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gushing forth like springs of water. Then he ordered the people, and they drank and gave water to others and filled their water skins and their water vessels. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his molars showed. He said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. No one meets Allah with these two on the Day of Resurrection except that he enters Paradise, whatever he was upon.
