حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو نَضْرَةَ، قَالَ:

سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: لا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: هُمْ قَوْمٌ حَبَسَتْهُمْ أَوْجَاعٌ أَوْ أَمْرَاضٌ، فَكَانُوا أُولَئِكَ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ، وَكَانَ الْقَاعِدُ الْمَرِيضُ أَعْذَرَ مِنَ الْقَاعِدِ الصَّحِيحِ.

✧ I asked Ibn ʿAbbās about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: 'Not equal are those believers who sit [at home]—other than those who are disabled.' Ibn ʿAbbās said, 'They are people kept back by pains or illnesses, so those were the ones with disability, and the sick person who stayed behind had more excuse than the healthy one who stayed behind.'
