حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: نَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ:

مَا خُيِّرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَمْرَيْنِ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَخَذَ أَيْسَرَهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَأْثَمْ، فَإِنْ كَانَ إِثْمًا كَانَ أَبْعَدَ النَّاسِ مِنْهُ، وَمَا انْتَقَمَ لِنَفْسِهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ يُؤْتَى إِلَيْهِ قَطُّ حَتَّى تُنْتَهَكَ مَحَارِمُ اللهِ فَيَنْتَقِمَ لَهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was never given a choice between two matters but that he chose the easier of them, as long as it was not a sin. If it was a sin, he was the furthest of people from it. He never took revenge for himself over anything done to him, until the sacred limits of Allah were violated, and then he would take revenge for Allah's sake.
