حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ قَالَ: نَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ الرَّازِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو زُهَيْرٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَغْرَاءَ قَالَ: نَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ قَالَ: نَا قَيْسُ بْنُ رُمَّانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ:

لَمَّا جَاءَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: مَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُنْتَهِينَ حَتَّى أَبْعَثَ إِلَيْكُمْ رَجُلًا يَضْرِبُ رِقَابَكُمْ عَلَى الدِّينِ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: أَنَا هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، وَقَالَ آخَرُ: أَنَا هُوَ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا، وَلَكِنْ هُوَ خَاصِفُ النَّعْلِ "، وَكَانَ عَلِيٌّ يَخْصِفُ النَّعْلَ

✧ When Suhayl b. ʿAmr came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: Will you not stop until I send you a man who will strike your necks over the religion? Some of them said: Am I he, O Messenger of God? He said: "No." Another said: Am I he? He said: "No, but he is the mender of the sandal." And ʿAlī was mending the sandal.
