حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ بِمِصْرَ قَالَ: نَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ قَالَ: نَا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ قُرَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ شَيْخًا هَرِمًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، عَلِّمْنِي عَمَلًا أَتَقَرَّبُ بِهِ إِلَى رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، قَالَ: عَلَيْكَ بِالْجِهَادِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَالَ: لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ، كَبِرْتُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، وَضَعُفْتُ قَالَ: " فَكُنْ مُؤَذِّنًا

✧ An old man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, teach me a deed by which I may draw near to my Lord, Mighty and Majestic. He said: You must strive in the way of God. He said: I am not able to do that; I have become too old and weak for it. He said: Then be a muezzin.
