✧ Islam is built on five: that Allah be worshipped, establishing the prayer, giving the zakat, performing the Hajj of the House of Allah, and fasting Ramadan. A man from the nobles of the people of Syria who was sitting with him said: 'Do you command the worship of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then he counted fasting before Hajj.' He said: 'I would only make it the last of them, thus I heard it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'

machine translationYazīd al-Taymī al-Aʿraj narrates it from Mujāhid, from Ibn ʿUmar as his own statement (mawqūf). Likewise Abū al-Jawzāʾ Aws b. ʿAbdullāh and Wabarah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated it from Ibn ʿUmar as mawqūf. Its being raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ) is sound (ṣaḥīḥ).
