✧ Two women came to Dawud ﷺ —a wolf had eaten one of their two sons—and they were disputing over the remaining one. Dawud judged it for the older woman. When they went out, they came to Sulayman, and he said, 'How did he judge between you?' They told him, and he said, 'Bring me a knife.' Abu Hurayrah said, 'I was the first person I heard say "knife" from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; we used to call it a blade.' The younger woman said, 'Why?' He said, 'To split him between you two.' She said, 'Give him to her.' So Sulayman judged it for the younger woman, and he said, 'If he were your son, you would not have been willing to split him.'
