حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مَابَهْرَامٍ الْإِيذَجِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَالِبِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ الْعَبْشَمِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ غَالِبٍ الْقَطَّانِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: صَبَبْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا وَضُوءَهُ، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّكَ سَتَلِي أَمْرَ أُمَّتِي بَعْدِي، فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فَاقْبَلْ مِنْ مُحْسِنِهِمْ، وَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْ مُسِيئِهِمْ قَالَ: فَمَا زِلْتُ أَرْجُوهَا حَتَّى قُمْتُ مَقَامِي هَذَا.

✧ I heard Mu'awiyah giving a sermon, saying: 'One day I poured out the water for the Messenger of God ﷺ to perform his ablution. He raised his head to me and said: 'You will indeed take charge of the affairs of my community after me. When that happens, accept from their doers of good and overlook their wrongdoers.'' He said: 'And I never ceased to hope for it until I rose to this position of mine.'
