✧ He was sitting with al-Mughirah b. Shu‘bah when a man came and spoke ill of ‘Ali. Sa‘id became angry and said: “Are the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoken ill of in your presence? I bear witness that Abu Bakr is in Paradise, that ‘Umar is in Paradise, that ‘Uthman is in Paradise, that ‘Ali is in Paradise, that Talhah is in Paradise, that al-Zubayr is in Paradise, that Sa‘d is in Paradise, and that ‘Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Awf is in Paradise. And if I wished to name the ninth, I would name him.” The people then said to him and increased upon him.
