حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الثَّقَفِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ. عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ: ذَاكَ يَوْمٌ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَمَنْ شَاءَ صَامَهُ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the day of Ashura and said: 'That is a day that the people of the Jahiliyyah used to fast. Whoever wishes may fast it, and whoever wishes may leave it.'
