From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "When Allah created Adam, he sneezed, and his Lord inspired him to say: 'All praise is for Allah.' So his Lord said to him: 'May Allah have mercy on you, your Lord'; for that reason His mercy preceded His wrath." He said: "Then Allah said: 'Go to the angels and greet them with peace.' So he came to them and said: 'Peace be upon you.' They said: 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah,' so they added to it 'the mercy of Allah.'"
