أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، نا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ،
قَالَ: كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ بِالْبَقِيعِ، فَأُطْلِعَ عَلَيْنَا بِجِنَازَةٍ، فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَتَعَجَّبَ مِنْ إِبْطَاءِ مَشْيِهِمْ بِهَا فَقَالَ: " عَجَبًا لِمَا يُغَيَّرُ مِنْ حَالِ النَّاسِ، وَاللهِ إِنْ كَانَ إِلَّا الْحُمُرُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيُلَاحِي الرَّجُلَ فَيَقُولُ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ، اتَّقِ اللهَ، فَكَأَنَّهُ قَدْ جَمَرَتْكَ مُتَعَجِّبًا لِإِبْطَاءِ مَشْيِهِمْ "

By Allah, it was nothing but the donkeys [i.e., they used to hurry], and a man would quarrel with another man and he would say: O servant of Allah, fear Allah, and it was as if he had spurred you on [unclear], being amazed at the slowness of their walking."
