That he said: I entered the mosque of Damascus, and there was a young man with bright, gleaming front teeth, and with him were people who, whenever they disagreed about something, referred it to him and proceeded according to his opinion. I asked about him, and it was said: This is Muʿādh b. Jabal. The next day I went out at midday, and I found that he had beaten me to the midday time, and I found him praying. He said: So I waited for him until he finished his prayer, then I came to him from in front of him, greeted him with peace, and said to him: By God, I love you for the sake of God. He said: By God? I said: By God. He said: By God? I said: By God. He said: Then he took hold of the fold of my cloak and pulled me towards him, and said: Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "God, Mighty and Majestic, said: My love is due to those who love one another for My sake, those who sit together for My sake, those who give to one another for My sake, and those who consult one another for My sake."
