He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited {هَلْ أَتَى عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ حِينٌ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ} [al-Insān: 1] until he finished it, then he said: "I see what you do not see, and I hear what you do not hear. The heaven has groaned, and it has every right to groan. There is not a space of four fingers in it except that an angel is placing his forehead in prostration to Allah. By Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much, you would not take pleasure in women on the beds, and you would go out to the open roads, crying out to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. By Allah, I wish I were a tree that is cut down." And this was narrated from Isḥāq b. Manṣūr, from Isrāʾīl, and at the end of it Abū Dharr said: "If only I were a tree that is cut down," making it part of the words of Abū Dharr.
