He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "The land of the non-Arabs will be opened to you, and you will find in it houses called bathhouses (ḥammāmāt). Men must not enter them except with a waist-wrapper, and prevent women from entering them, except for a sick woman or a woman in postpartum bleeding." This is a hadith that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ziyād al-Afrīqī is alone in transmitting, and most of the people of knowledge do not use his hadith as evidence. Abū Dāwūd recorded it in the Sunan, from Aḥmad b. Yūnus, from Zuhayr, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ziyād. It is not weaker than the hadiths of prohibition in the absolute sense. It has been narrated by another route from ʿUmar as a raised report (marfūʿ), though it is not strong. We have also narrated from Nāfiʿ and Bukayr b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ashajj that they understood the prohibition in that matter as one of discouragement (tanzīh). And God knows best.
