أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ، أَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ
قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ: " لَا تَثِقْ بِكَثْرَةِ الْعَمَلِ، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي تُقْبَلُ مِنْكَ أَمْ لَا، وَلَا تَأْمَنْ ذُنُوبَكَ، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي هَلْ كُفِّرَتْ عَنْكَ أَمْ لَا، إِنَّ عَمَلَكَ عَنْكَ مُغَيَّبٌ مَا تَدْرِي مَا اللهُ صَانِعٌ فِيهِ، أَيَجْعَلُهُ فِي سِجِّينَ، أَمْ يَجْعَلُهُ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ "
