أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، نا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الْمُنَادِي، نا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، نا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ،
فِي قَوْلِهِ: {فَتَلَقَّى آدَمُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ} [البقرة: 37]، قَالَ: " ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ تُبْتُ وَأَصْلَحْتُ؟، قَالَ: فَإِنِّي إِذًا أُرَاجِعُكَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ: {رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا وَإِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ} [الأعراف: 23] فَاسْتَغْفَرَ آدَمُ رَبَّهُ وَتَابَ إِلَيْهِ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ، وَأَمَّا عَدُوُّ اللهِ إِبْلِيسُ فَوَاللهِ مَا تَنَصَّلَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَلَا سَأَلَ التَّوْبَةَ حَتَّى وَقَعَ فِيمَا وَقَعَ، وَلَكِنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّظِرَةَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ، فَأَعْطَى اللهُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا مَا سَأَلَ "
