أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَا: حدثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، حدثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، حدثنا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُصْعَبٌ،
أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ، كَتَبَ إِلَى عَامِلِهِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ الْحَسَنِ، يُكَاتِبُ أَهْلَ الْعِرَاقِ فَإِذَا جَاءَكَ كِتَابِي هَذَا فَابْعَثْ إِلَيْهِ فَلْيُؤْتَ بِهِ قَالَ: فَجِيئَ بِهِ وَشَغَلَهُ شَيْءٌ قَالَ: فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ فَقَالَ: يَا ابْنَ عَمِّ قُلْ كَلِمَاتِ الْفَرَجِ " لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ، قَالَ: فَخَلَّا لِلْآخَرِ وَجْهَهُ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: أَرَى وَجْهًا قَدْ قُشِبَ بِكَذِبَةٍ، خَلُّوا سَبِيلَهُ وَلْيُرَاجِعْ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ "

So when this letter of mine reaches you, send for him and have him brought." He said: So he was brought, and something occupied him. He said: Then ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn stood up to him and said: "O cousin, say the words of relief: 'There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. There is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Almighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.'" He said: Then the other one turned his face toward him and looked at him, and said: "I see a face that has been tainted with a lie. Let him go his way, and let him refer back to the Commander of the Believers."
