He said: Al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah wrote to Muʿāwiyah — and Warrād claimed that he wrote it with his own hand: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Indeed Allah has forbidden three things: disobedience to mothers, burying daughters alive, and 'withholding and demanding' (lā wa-hāt). And He has prohibited three things: 'it was said and he said' (idle talk), wasting wealth, and persistent begging.'" Muslim recorded it in the Ṣaḥīḥ by another route from Muḥammad b. Sūqah.

machine translationAbū Dāwūd al-Fazārī narrated it from Ibn Sūqah, who said: ʿAbd al-Malik b. Saʿīd b. Jubayr informed me that Saʿīd b. Jubayr was asked about wasting wealth. He said: It is the man whom Allah provides with sustenance, and he spends it on something forbidden that Allah has forbidden to him. This is part of wasting wealth, and what we mentioned earlier is included in it.
