He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ addressed us on the Day of Sacrifice and said: "What day is this?" Or he said: "Do you know what day this is?" He said: We said: God and His Messenger know best. He said: He was silent until we thought he would give it a name other than its name. Then he said: "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?" We said: Yes. He said: "And what month is this?" Or he said: "Do you know what month this is?" We said: God and His Messenger know best. He was silent until we thought he would give it a name other than its name. He said: "Is it not the sacred month?" We said: Yes. He said: "Indeed your blood and your wealth are sacred, like the sacredness of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours, until the day you meet your Lord. Have I not conveyed?" They said: Yes. He said: "O God, bear witness. Let the one present convey to the one absent, for perhaps one to whom it is conveyed is more retentive than the one who heard it. Beware, do not return to disbelief after me, striking one another's necks."
