أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أنا أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ مَطَرٍ، نا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْمُسْتَمْلِي عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، نا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَدِّي أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ،
يَقُولُ: كَانَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَجُلًا حَسَنَ الصَّوْتِ، وَكَانَ يَرْجُزُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ، فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يَرْجُزُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ قَارَبَ النِّسَاءَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " إِيَّاكَ وَالْقَوَارِيرَ، إِيَّاكَ وَالْقَوَارِيرَ " قَالَ: فَأَمْسَكَ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: " فَكَرِهَ أَنْ يَسْمَعَ النِّسَاءُ الصَّوْتَ "، قَالَ أَبُو حَفْصٍ: " هَذَا حَدِيثٌ جَلِيلٌ "

He said: Al-Barāʾ b. Mālik was a man with a beautiful voice, and he used to chant rajaz verses for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on some of his journeys. While he was chanting for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he came close to the women, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Beware of the glass vessels, beware of the glass vessels." He said: So he stopped.
