حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، نا الْبَاغَنْدِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُنَيْسٍ الْمَكِّيُّ
قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ بِمَكَّةَ نَعُودُهُ فِي دَارِ الْعَطَّارِينَ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ سَعِيدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ يَعُودُهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ سُفْيَانُ الْحَدِيثُ الَّذِي كُنْتَ حَدَّثْتَنِيهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ صَالِحٍ ارْدُدْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ صَالِحٍ بِنْتُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " كَلَامُ ابْنِ آدَمَ كُلُّهُ عَلَيْهِ لَا لَهُ إِلَّا أَمْرًا بِمَعْرُوفٍ، أَوْ نَهْيًا عَنْ مُنْكَرٍ، أَوْ ذَكَرَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ "، فَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ: " مَا أَشَدُّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ". فَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ: " وَمَا شِدَّةُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، إِنَّمَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ امْرَأَةٌ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ هَذَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ بِهِ نَبِيَّكُمْ ﷺ: أَمَا سَمِعْتَ اللهَ يَقُولُ: {لَا خَيْرَ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِنْ نَجْوَاهُمْ} [النساء: 114] إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ إِصْلَاحٍ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَهُوَ هَذَا بِعَيْنِهِ أَوَ مَا سَمِعْتَ قَوْلَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ: {يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا} [النبأ: 38] فَهُوَ هَذَا بِعَيْنِهِ. أَوَمَا سَمِعْتَ اللهَ يَقُولُ: {وَالْعَصْرِ إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ، وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ} [العصر: 2] فَهُوَ هَذَا بِعَيْنِهِ دَخَلَ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَحَدِهِمَا فِي حَدِيثِ الْآخَرِ "

Ḥassān al-Makhzūmī came in to visit him, and Sufyān said to him: "The hadith you narrated to me from Umm Ṣāliḥ, repeat it to me." He said: Umm Ṣāliḥ bint Ṣāliḥ narrated to me, from Ṣafiyyah bint Shaybah, from Umm Ḥabībah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "All the speech of the son of Adam is against him and not for him, except enjoining the good, or forbidding the evil, or the remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." Muḥammad b. Yazīd said: "How severe this hadith is!" Sufyān said: "What is severe about this hadith? A woman merely related it from a woman. This is in the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, with which your Prophet ﷺ was sent. Have you not heard Allah say: {لَا خَيْرَ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِنْ نَجْوَاهُمْ} [al-Nisāʾ: 114], except for whoever enjoins charity or good or reconciliation between people? This is exactly that. And have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: {يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا} [al-Nabaʾ: 38]?
