سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيَّ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رُمَيْحٍ، يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ بِسْطَامٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ سَيَّارٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ حَبِيبًا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَلَّابَ،
قَالَ: قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ: أَيُّ خَصْلَةٍ فِي الْإِنْسَانِ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَ: " غَرِيزَةُ عَقْلٍ "، قيلَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ؟ قَالَ: " فَأَدَبٌ حَسَنٌ ". قِيلَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ؟ قَالَ: " أَخٌ شَقِيقٌ يُشَاوِرُهُ "، قِيلَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ؟ قَالَ: " فَصَمْتٌ طَوِيلٌ "، قِيلَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ؟ قَالَ: " فَمَوْتٌ عَاجِلٌ ".
