وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُوقَةَ،
قَالَ: مَرَرْتُ مَعَ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، بِالْكُوفَةِ عَلَى قَصْرِ الْحَجَّاجِ، فَقُلْتُ: لَوْ رَأَيْتَ مَا نَزَلَ بِنَا هَهُنَا زَمَنَ الْحَجَّاجِ، فَقَالَ: " مَرَرْتَ كَأَنَّكَ لَمْ تَدْعُ إِلَى ضُرٍّ مَسَّكَ، ارْجِعْ فَاحْمَدِ اللهَ وَاشْكُرْهُ، أَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ {مَرَّ كَأَنْ لَمْ يَدْعُنَا إِلَى ضُرٍّ مَسَّهُ} [يونس: 12] "
