أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْحَرَفيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ،
أَنَّ رَجُلًا، بَسَطَ لَهُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا فَانْتَزَعَ مَا فِي يَدِيْهِ، فَجَعَلَ يُحْمَدُ اللهَ وَيُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى لَمْ يَكُنْ فِرَاشٌ إِلَّا بَارِيٌّ، فَجَعَلَ يُحْمَدُ اللهَ، وَيُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ، وَبَسَطَ لَآخَرَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا، فَقَالَ: لِصَاحِبِ الَبارِي: أَرَأَيْتَكَ أَنْتَ عَلَى مَا تَحْمَدَ اللهَ؟، قَالَ: " أَحْمَدُهُ عَلَى مَا لَوْ أَعْطَيْتَ بِهِ مَا لَوْ أَعْطَى الْخَلْقَ لَمْ أُعْطِهِمْ إِيَّاهُ "، قَالَ: وَمَا ذَلِكَ؟، قَالَ: " أَرَأَيْتَ بَصَرَكَ، أَرَأَيْتَ لِسَانَكَ، أَرَأَيْتَ يَدَيْكَ، أَرَأَيْتَ رِجْلَيْكَ "
