That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Horses are for three kinds of people: for one man a reward, for another a covering, and for another a burden. As for the one for whom it is a reward: a man who tethers it in the path of Allah, the Exalted, and gives it a long tether in a meadow or a garden. Whatever it eats within that tether from the meadow or the garden is counted for him as good deeds. And if it breaks its tether and gallops over one hill or two, its footprints and its dung are good deeds for him. And if it passes by a river and drinks from it, though he did not intend to water it, that is counted for him as good deeds. So for that it is a reward. And a man who tethers it for self-sufficiency and to remain chaste, and does not forget Allah's right in its neck or its back: so for that it is a covering. And a man who tethers it out of pride and showing off, and in hostility toward the people of Islam: so for that it is a burden." The Prophet ﷺ was asked about donkeys, and he said: "Nothing has been revealed about them except this comprehensive, unique verse: {فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ، وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ} [al-Zalzalah: 8]."
