He said: "When God accepted the repentance of Adam and commanded him to travel to Mecca, He folded the earth for him until he reached Mecca. The angels met him at al-Abṭaḥ and welcomed him, and said to him: 'O Adam, we have been awaiting the fulfilment of your pilgrimage. We performed pilgrimage to this House before you by two thousand years.' God commanded Gabriel, peace be upon him, and he taught him all the rites and the sacred sites, and he set out with him until he made him stand at ʿArafāt, al-Muzdalifah, at Minā, and at the pillars (al-jimār). And He sent down to him the prayer, the zakāh, the fast, and the ritual bath after sexual impurity." Wahb mentioned: "In the time of Adam, peace be upon him, the House was a red ruby, blazing with light, from the rubies of Paradise. It had two doors, one eastern and one western, of gold from the gold of Paradise. In it were three lamps of the gold of Paradise, in which was a blazing light. Its door was strung with stars of white ruby. The Corner on that day was one of its stars, a white ruby. It remained so until the time of Noah, peace be upon him. In another place he said: The tent of Adam, which was the ruby, remained in its place until God took Adam; then He raised it up to Himself, and the children of Adam built in its place a house of clay and stones. It continued to be inhabited until the time of the Flood, and then it was raised up from the Flood and placed beneath the Throne, and the land remained in ruin for two thousand years. It remained so until the time of Abraham, peace be upon him, and He commanded him to build His House. Then the Sakīnah came to Abraham, peace be upon him, like a cloud in which was a head that spoke, with a face like the face of a human. It said: 'O Abraham, take the measure of my shadow and build upon it; add nothing and do not diminish.' So Abraham took the measure of its shadow, then he and Ishmael built the House, and he did not give it a roof. People used to throw adornments and goods into it, until, when it was nearly full, five men prepared to steal what was in it. Each one stood at a corner, and the fifth climbed in, fell on his head and perished. God then sent a white serpent with a black head and tail, which guarded the House for five hundred years; no one approached it but it destroyed him. It remained so until Quraysh built it." He said: And he mentioned from ʿAṭāʾ that ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, may God be pleased with him, asked Kaʿb, saying: "Tell me about this House, what was its matter?" He said: "God sent this House down from heaven as a hollow ruby with Adam, peace be upon him, and said: 'O Adam, this is My House. Circumambulate it and pray around it, as you saw My angels circumambulating My Throne and praying.' The angels came down with him and raised its foundations of stone, then the House was placed on the foundations. When God drowned the people of Noah, God raised it up, and its foundations remained." Wahb mentioned that he read a book of the earlier scriptures in which he found mention of the matter of the Kaʿbah. He mentioned that there is no angel God sends to the earth but he is commanded to visit the House. He descends from beside the Throne in a state of iḥrām, saying the talbiyah, until he touches the Stone, then circumambulates the House seven times, then enters the House and prays two rakʿahs inside it, then ascends."
