أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُزَنِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ،
أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، قَالَ: أُخْبِرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنِّي أَقُولُ: لَأَصُومَنَّ النَّهَارَ وَلَأَقُومَنَّ اللَّيْلَ مَا عِشْتُ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: قَدْ قُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، قَالَ: " فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ، فَصُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ، وَصَلِّ وَنَمْ، وَصُمْ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ، فَإِنَّ الْحَسَنَةَ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا، وَذَلِكَ مِثْلُ صِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ "، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: " فَصُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا وَذَلِكَ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ، وَهُوَ أَعْدَلُ الصِّيَامِ "، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " لَا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ".

He said: So I said: "I am able to do more than that." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is nothing better than that."
