He said: ʿAlī said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the middle of Shaʿbān. He stood and prayed fourteen rakʿahs, then sat down after finishing, and recited Umm al-Qurʾān (al-Fātiḥah) fourteen times, and {Say: He is Allah, the One} fourteen times, and {Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak} fourteen times, and {Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind} fourteen times, and Āyat al-Kursī once, and {There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves} [al-Tawbah: 128] to the end of the verse. When he finished his prayer, I asked him about what I had seen him do. He said: 'Whoever does the like of what you saw will have the like of twenty accepted pilgrimages, and the fasting of twenty accepted years. If he is fasting the next morning, he will have the like of fasting two years: a past year and a coming year.'" Imam Aḥmad said: "It seems this ḥadīth is fabricated, and it is rejected (munkar), and in the narration, those before ʿUthmān b. Saʿīd are unknown. And Allah knows best."
