He said: "I was at sea, and I spent the night of the twenty-third of Ramadan in worship, and I washed with the sea water and found it sweet and fresh." Aḥmad said: We have narrated from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd that he used to say: "Whoever stands in prayer throughout the year will catch it." Then it was narrated from him that he said: "Seek the Night of Qadr on the seventeenth, the morning of Badr, or on the twenty-first or the twenty-third." And it was narrated by another route from Ibn Masʿūd, from the Prophet ﷺ: "Seek it on the night of the seventeenth of Ramadan, and the night of the twenty-first, and the night of the twenty-third." We have mentioned all of that in the Book of the Sunan.
