That he heard Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī say, as he was narrating to them: "I will narrate to you the hadith about these prayers of yours, when you avoid the major sins. We pray the Ẓuhr, then we tear at ourselves (with sins); then when we pray the ʿAṣr, it expiates what is between them. Then we tear at ourselves; then when we pray the Maghrib, it expiates what is between them. Then we tear at ourselves; then when we pray the ʿIshāʾ - meaning the ʿAtamah - it expiates what is between them. Then we tear at ourselves; then when we pray the Fajr, it expiates what is between them, when you avoid the major sins." It came in this way as a statement halted at Abū Mūsā (mawqūf).
