That Abū Bakr al-Ḥafīd narrated to them, saying: Our grandfather ʿAbbās b. Ḥamzah narrated to us, Abū Kurayb narrated to us. And Abū Masʿūd Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Rāzī informed me by license (ijāzah), and the wording is his: Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. Yaḥyā al-Tamīmī informed us, Abū Quraysh Muḥammad b. Jumuʿah b. Khalaf al-Ḥāfiẓ narrated to us, Abū Kurayb narrated to me, Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, from Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh, from Ḥudhayfah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Islam will wear away as the embroidery of a garment wears away, until it is not known what fasting is, nor charity, nor rites of worship. And the Book of Allah will be taken away in one night, so not a single verse of it will remain on the earth. And groups of people will remain, the old man saying: We found our fathers upon this statement, 'There is no god but Allah,' and we say it." Ṣilah said to him: What will 'There is no god but Allah' avail them, when they do not know what fasting is, nor charity, nor rites of worship? Ḥudhayfah turned away from him. They repeated it to him three times, each time Ḥudhayfah turning away from him. Then he turned to him the third time and said: "O Ṣilah, it will save them from the Fire, it will save them from the Fire."
