He said: Marwān b. al-Ḥakam sent for Zayd b. Thābit at midday, and we said: He has not sent for him at this hour except for something he wants to ask him. When he came out, we asked him, and he said: Yes, he asked us about things we had heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "May Allah make radiant the person who hears a ḥadīth from us, memorizes it, and conveys it. For many a bearer of understanding conveys it to one who has more understanding than he, and many a bearer of understanding is not himself a person of understanding." "There are three things in which the heart of a Muslim never harbors rancor: sincerity of action for Allah, giving sincere counsel to those in authority, and adhering to the community, for their supplication encompasses them from behind." "Whoever has the Hereafter as his intention, Allah gathers his affairs for him, places richness in his heart, and the world comes to him in submission. And whoever has the world as his intention, Allah scatters his affairs for him, places his poverty between his eyes, and nothing of the world comes to him except what has been decreed for him." He said: And Abū Umayyah narrated to us, Umar b. Yūnus al-Yamānī narrated to us, Jahḍam narrated to us, from ʿUmar b. Sulaymān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abān b. ʿUthmān, from his father, from Zayd b. Thābit, from the Prophet ﷺ, the same.
