أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ الْعَبْدَوِيُّ الْحَافِظُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْحَاقَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ الْمُعْتَمِرَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ، يَقُولُ: كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَبِي، وَأنا بِالْكُوفَةِ:
" يَا بُنَيَّ، اشْتَرِ الصُّحُفَ وَاكْتُبِ الْعِلْمَ، فَإِنَّ الْمَالَ يَفْنَى وَالْعِلْمَ يَبْقَى "
