He said: Abū Dharr said: "Upon every person, every day on which the sun rises, there is a charity due from himself." He said: I said: "O Messenger of God, from what can we give charity when we have no wealth?" He said: "Among the doors of charity are saying 'Allāhu akbar', 'Subḥān Allāh', 'al-ḥamdu lillāh', 'lā ilāha illā Allāh', and 'astaghfiru Allāh'; enjoining the good and forbidding the evil; removing thorns, bones and stones from the people's path; guiding the blind; making the deaf and mute hear until he understands; directing one who seeks guidance to a need of his whose place you know; raising your arms with strength to help the weak; and running with the strength of your legs to the distressed person who calls for help. All of that is among the doors of charity from you upon yourself, and you have a reward in intercourse with your wife." Abū Dharr said: "How can I have a reward in my desire?" The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Tell me, if you had a child, and he reached maturity and you hoped for good from him, then he died, would you have sought reward with God for him?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Did you create him?" He said: I said: "Rather, God created him." He said: "Did you guide him?" I said: "Rather, God guided him." He said: "Were you the one who provided for him?" I said: "Rather, God provided for him." He said: "So it is the same here: place it in what is lawful and keep it away from what is forbidden. If God wills, He will keep him alive, and if He wills, He will cause him to die, and you will have a reward."
