machine translationAbū ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us, saying: I heard Abū ʿAbdillāh Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Mūsā al-Rāzī

Machine translation, not reviewed

He says: "I attended the court of Mūsā b. Isḥāq, the judge, and a woman brought her husband before him and claimed against him her dowry of five hundred dinars. The man denied it. The woman's representative said: 'I have brought my witnesses.' One of the witnesses said: 'I will look at the woman.' So he stood up and she stood up. The husband said: 'For what reason is he looking at my wife?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then I call the judge to witness that she is owed by me her dowry, five hundred dinars, all of it in gold coin, in full mithqāl weight, and let her not unveil her face.' The woman said: 'Then I call the judge to witness that I have gifted it to him.' The judge said: 'This is to be written down among the noble character traits.'" Imam Aḥmad, may God have mercy on him, said: "Al-Ḥalīmī said: 'Included in jealous protectiveness (ghayrah) is jealousy for the religion, such that if one hears an opponent of the religion attacking the religion of Islam, he does not remain calm and does not swallow it. Also from this chapter is the upholding of jihad in the way of God, Mighty and Majestic, to repel the polytheists from the vulnerable points of the Muslims, and out of fear that they might prevail over any part of the land and take women and children captive. The first thing that enters into this whole matter is the jealousy of every Muslim for his religion, so that he does not yield to the commission of sins. The discussion is expanded in each section of these sections, and God grants us success in obeying Him.'"
