Discarding a Ring and Not Wearing it Anymore

Show the chain

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationThe people of ḥadīth are unanimous that this is an error (wahm) on the part of Ibn Shihāb, in changing from the gold ring to the silver ring. What is well known from the narration of Anas, through routes other than that of Ibn Shihāb, is that the Prophet ﷺ adopted a silver ring and did not cast it away; rather, he cast away the gold ring.

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5305
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationA group of the students of Ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī narrated it from him in the same way, but according to the people of knowledge this is an error (wahm), a mistake, and an irregularity (shudhūdh) in the narration.

    in سنن النسائي, p. 5305
