أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَاصِمَ بْنَ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قُلِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي» وَنَهَانِي أَنْ أَجْعَلَ خَاتَمِي فِي هَذِهِ الْخِنْصَرِ أَوِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا لَمْ يَدْرِ عَاصِمٌ فِي أَيِّ الثِّنْتَيْنِ وَنَهَانِي عَنْ لُبْسِ القَسِّيٌّ وعَنِ جُلُوسٍ عَلَى الْمَيَاثِرِ فَأَمَّا القَسِّيٌّ فَثِيَابٌ مُضَلَّعَةٌ يُؤْتَى بِهَا مِنْ مِصْرَ وَالشَّامِ وَأَمَّا الْمَيَاثِرُ فَشَيْءٌ كَانَتْ تَصْنَعُهُ النِّسَاءُ لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ كَالْقَطَائِفِ مِنَ الْأُرْجُوَانِ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: 'Say: O Allah, guide me and direct me aright.' And he forbade me to place my ring on this little finger or the one next to it—Asim was not sure which of the two—and he forbade me from wearing qassi and from sitting on mayathir. As for qassi, they are ribbed garments brought from Egypt and Syria. As for mayathir, they are something that women used to make for their husbands to place on the saddle, like velvet cushions of purple.
