أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَرْوَانُ يَسْتَخْلِفُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَكَانَ إِذَا رَأَى إِنْسَانًا يَجُرُّ إِزَارَهُ ضَرَبَ بِرِجْلِهِ وَيَقُولُ قَدْ جَاءَ الْأَمِيرُ قَدْ جَاءَ الْأَمِيرُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ «لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ إِلَى مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا»

✧ Marwan used to appoint Abu Hurayrah as his deputy over Madinah. Whenever Abu Hurayrah saw a man dragging his lower garment, he would stamp his foot and say: "The amir has come, the amir has come." Then he would say: "Abu al-Qasim ﷺ said: 'Allah does not look at one who drags his lower garment out of arrogance.'"
