أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا وَهُوَ ابْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَلَى بَابِ دَارِهِ فَمَرَّ بِهِ شَابٌّ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يَسْحَبُ إِزَارَهُ فَصَاحَ بِهِ
وَقَالَ ارْفَعْ إِزَارَكَ فَجَعَلَ يَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ اسْتِرْخَائِهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يَمْشِي فِي حُلَّةٍ لَهُ مُعْجَبَةٌ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ إِذْ خَسَفَ اللهُ بِهِ الْأَرْضَ فَهُوَ يَتَجَلْجَلُ فِيهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»
Translation

- Muḥammad b. ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbd al-ʿAẓīm al-Qurashī
✧ And he said: "Raise your lower garment." So he began to excuse himself to him for its looseness, then he turned to me and said: Abu Hurayrah narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "While a man from those before you was walking in a fine suit of clothes, pleased with himself, Allah caused the earth to swallow him, and he keeps sinking in it until the Day of Resurrection."
