أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْثَرَ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَوَّارٍ كُوفِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

«رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي لَيْلَةٍ فِي حُلَّةٍ حَمْرَاءَ فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَإِلَى الْقَمَرِ فَلَهُوَ أَحْسَنُ عِنْدِي مِنَ الْقَمَرِ» قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هَذَا خَطَأٌ وَالصَّوَابُ الَّذِي قَبْلَهُ وَأَشْعَثُ ضَعِيفٌ

Translation

✧ “I saw the Prophet ﷺ on a night in a red hulla, and I began to look at him and at the moon, and he was more beautiful to me than the moon.” Abu Abd al-Rahman said to us: This is a mistake, and the correct is the one before it, and Ash’ath is weak.
