✧ Prohibition of wearing a ring on the index finger.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قُلِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي» وَنَهَانِي أَنْ أَضَعَ الْخَاتَمَ فِي هَذِهِ أَوْ هَذِهِ وَأَشَارَ بِشْرٌ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى قَالَ وَقَالَ عَاصِمٌ أَحَدُهُمَا

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Ismāʿīl b. Masʿūd
  2. Bishr
  3. ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb
  4. Abū Burdah
  5. ʿAlī

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: “Say: O Allah, guide me and make me upright.” And he forbade me to place the ring on this or this — and Bishr pointed to the forefinger and the middle finger. He said: And ʿĀṣim said: one of the two.
