✧ The Right of a Woman upon her Husband

أَخْبَرَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ الْوَرَّاقِ قِيلَ إِنَّهُ دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا دُفِعْتُ إِلَيْهِ قُلْتُ «بِاللهِ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ أَهُوَ أَرْسَلَكَ بِمَا تَقُولُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَهُوَ أَمَرَكَ بِمَا تَأْمُرُنَا بِهِ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي نِسَائِنَا؟» قَالَ «هُنَّ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ وَأَطْعِمُوهُنَّ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ وَاكْسُوهُنَّ مِمَّا تَلْبَسُونَ وَلَا تَضْرِبُوهُنَّ وَلَا تُقَبِّحُوهُنَّ»

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and when I was brought before him, I said: "By Allah who sent you, is it He who sent you with what you say?" He said: "Yes." He said: "And is it He who commanded you with what you command us?" He said: "Yes." He said: "What do you say about our women?" He said: "They are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish. Feed them from what you eat, and clothe them from what you wear, and do not strike them, and do not revile them."
