أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَحْصُوا لِي مَنْ كَانَ يَلْفِظُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ» فَقُلْنَا أَتَخَافُ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ مَا بَيْنَ السِّتِّمِائَةِ إِلَى السَّبْعِمِائَةِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ أَنْ تُبْتَلَوْا فَابْتُلِيَنَا حَتَّى جَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا لَا يُصَلِّي إِلَّا سِرًّا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Count for me those who profess Islam." We said, "Are you afraid for us when we are between six and seven hundred?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You do not know; perhaps you will be tested." And we were tested, so that a man among us would pray only in secret.
