أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ قَالَ
«مَا كَانَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَطَيَّرُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَلَكِنْ كَانَ إِذَا سَأَلَ عَنِ اسْمِ الرَّجُلِ فَكَانَ حَسَنًا رُئِيَ الْبِشَارَةُ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ سَيِّئًا رُئِيَ ذَلِكَ فِيهِ وَإِذَا سَأَلَ عَنِ اسْمِ الْأَرْضِ فَكَانَ حَسَنًا رُئِيَ الْبِشَارَةُ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ سَيِّئًا رُئِيَ ذَلِكَ فِيهِ»

✧ The Prophet of Allah ﷺ did not take omens from anything. But when he asked about a man's name, if it was good, joy was seen in his face, and if it was bad, that was seen in him. And when he asked about the name of a land, if it was good, joy was seen in his face, and if it was bad, that was seen in him.
