أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَلَّمَا يُرِيدُ وَجْهًا إِلَّا وَرَّى بِغَيْرِهِ حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَلَّى لِلنَّاسِ فِيهَا أَمْرَهُ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَتَأَهَّبَ النَّاسُ أُهْبَةَ غَزْوِهِمْ فَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَازِيًا يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ مُخْتَصَرٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rarely intended any destination without indicating another, until the expedition of Tabuk came. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and made his matter clear to the people in it, and he wanted the people to prepare the equipment for their expedition. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out as a raider on Thursday—an abbreviation.
