أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

مَرِضَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَعُودُهُ فَكَانَ عِنْدَ رَأْسَهُ مَقْعَدَ رَجُلٍ فَقَامَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ فَجَلَسَ فِيهِ فَشَكَوُا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ إِلَى أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَقَالُوا إِنَّهُ يَقَعُ فِي آلِهَتِنَا قَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى هَذَا؟ قَالَ يَا عَمُّ «إِنَّمَا أُرِيدُهُمْ عَلَى كَلِمَةٍ تَدِينُ لَهُمْ بِهَا الْعَرَبُ ثُمَّ تُؤَدِّي إِلَيْهِمُ الْعَجَمُ الْجِزْيَةَ» فَقَالَ وَمَا هِيَ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» فَقَالُوا {أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَهًا وَاحِدًا إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ وَانْطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ} [ص 6]

✧ Abu Talib fell ill, and the Prophet ﷺ came to visit him. There was a sitting place for a man near his head, and Abu Jahl got up and sat in it. They complained to Abu Talib about the Prophet ﷺ and said, "He insults our gods." He said, "O son of my brother, what do you want from them?" He said, "O uncle, I only want them to [utter] one word by which the Arabs will submit to them and then the non-Arabs will pay jizyah to them." He said, "And what is it?" He said, "La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah)." So they said, "Has he made the gods one God? Indeed, this is a strange thing. And the leaders among them went forth." [Surah Sad: 6]
