أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ الْأَشْعَرِيِّينَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَا يُعْرِضَانِ بِالْعَمَلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ أَخْوَنَكُمْ عِنْدِي مَنْ طَلَبَهُ فَمَا اسْتَعَانَ بِهِمَا عَلَى شَيْءٍ»

✧ Two men from the Ash'aris came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and began to seek a position of authority. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The worst of you in my sight is the one who asks for it. So he did not appoint either of them over anything."
