✧ Pardoning the captive

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

هَبَطَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ جَبَلِ التَّنْعِيمِ فَقَالُوا نَأْخُذُ مُحَمَّدًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سِلْمًا ثُمَّ عَفَا عَنْهُمْ فَأَنزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى {وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ} [الفتح 24]

✧ Eighty men from the people of Makkah descended upon the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Hudaybiyyah from Mount Tan'im. They said: 'We will seize Muhammad and his companions.' The Prophet ﷺ took them peacefully, then pardoned them. Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sent down: {And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them} [al-Fath 24].
