✧ The burning of their homes.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَلَا تَكْفِينِي ذَا الْخَلَصَةِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ لَا أَثْبُتُ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ فَصَكَّ فِي صَدْرِي وَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ ثَبِّتْهُ وَاجْعَلْهُ هَادِيًا مَهْدِيًّا» قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ فِي خَمْسِينَ مِنْ قَوْمِي فَأَتَيْتُهَا فَأَحْرَقْنَاهَا وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى «فَأَتَيْتُهَا فَأَحْرَقْتُهَا» ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ «وَاللهِ مَا أَتَيْتُكَ حَتَّى تَرَكْتُهَا مِثْلَ الْجَمَلِ الْأَجْرَبِ فَدَعَا لِأَحْمَسَ خَيْلِهَا وَرِجَالِهَا»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Will you not suffice me against Dhu al-Khalasah?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a man who cannot keep steady on a horse." He struck my chest and said, "O Allah, make him steadfast and make him a guide, rightly guided." He said: "So I set out with fifty men of my people and came to it and we burned it." Sufyan said on another occasion: "So I came to it and I burned it." Then I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "By Allah, I did not come to you until I left it like a mangy camel." Then he supplicated for Ahmas, its horses and its men.
